URGENT UPDATE: A mother of two has been tragically shot and killed while working at a storage facility in Covina, California, on November 2. The accused gunman, identified as 66-year-old Juan Nava, is now in police custody following this horrific incident.

The community is reeling from the shocking loss of Patricia Villa, a beloved mother and partner, whose life was cut short in what her family describes as a senseless act of violence. Hundreds gathered at an emotional vigil on Saturday to honor her memory, emphasizing her positive spirit and dedication to family and work.

“Patricia was a non-violent person and… why did this have to happen to her?” asked her father, Frank Villa, expressing the family’s anguish over the sudden tragedy. “She was a dedicated employee and awesome coworker, bringing light to everybody,” said Deann Pancheri, a close friend.

The brutal shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, when security footage captured the suspect arriving at the facility. Witnesses reported that Nava parked his car, donned a mask, and armed himself before entering the premises. Patricia’s family grew concerned when they could not reach her and drove to the facility, where they discovered her lying inside, having been shot five times.

Authorities confirmed that Nava was a customer at the storage facility and appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. Following the shooting, police utilized facial recognition technology to identify and apprehend him. “They searched his house and found many arms, including automatic weapons and handguns,” Frank Villa stated.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Patricia’s family during this devastating time, highlighting the unexpected nature of such violence. “I don’t know how anybody could plan for something like this. It was just that random,” said Pancheri.

Nava is currently being held without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 9. The community continues to mourn Patricia and seek justice in the wake of this tragic event.

This developing story underscores the urgent need for dialogue surrounding mental health and gun violence, impacting families and communities everywhere. Stay tuned for more updates as this situation unfolds.
