BREAKING: Kamaru Usman has unveiled an ambitious plan to retire as a two-division UFC champion, setting his sights on the winner of this weekend’s highly anticipated UFC 322 main event. In an exclusive interview with TMZ Sports, the former welterweight champion outlined his vision for the future as he prepares to watch champion Jack Della Maddalena face off against Islam Makhachev at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday.

Usman, who is eager to reclaim his spot at the top of the UFC, believes the upcoming fight is critical for his future. “I think [the fight is] a toss-up, but I do think Islam has the grappling edge when it goes down to the ground,” Usman stated. “We’ll see what happens. But of course, I’m looking to get in there and potentially test myself against the winner.”

The 38-year-old fighter, known as the “Nigerian Nightmare,” last stepped into the Octagon in June, where he defeated Joaquin Buckley by unanimous decision. Although he has not set a timetable for his return, he remains focused on claiming the welterweight title once again. “The storybook would be to go and grab this title, then go and grab the other title,” Usman explained, referring to his previous reign as welterweight champion for a remarkable 3.5 years.

What’s next for Usman? He aims to secure a shot at both the welterweight and middleweight titles, the latter currently held by Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev, who handed Usman one of his four career losses in a closely contested bout, represents a significant challenge for the former champion. “I think that’s an intriguing fight,” Usman said. “That’s a compelling fight that everybody would want to see on a full training camp to go out and challenge him.”

With his sights firmly set on becoming a two-division champion, Usman’s aspirations highlight the human drive for greatness and legacy. “The only thing that is not on the resume is the two-division champion,” Usman added. “Go out and get that. And at that point, then you look back and go, ‘Oh, what else is there to do?’”

As UFC 322 draws closer, the fight landscape is shifting rapidly, and all eyes will be on the Octagon this weekend. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Usman’s anticipated matchups materialize and how they could redefine his illustrious career.
