Community Mourns the Loss of Vernon A. Nathe, 1937-2025
The community is grieving the loss of Vernon A. Nathe, who passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Clarkston, Washington, in 1937, Vern was the youngest of five siblings. He dedicated his life to family, service, and his community.
Vern graduated from Washington State University before serving two years in the army, stationed in Germany. His journey took him to Mountain View, California, where he met his future wife, Lou Elsa Voegtly. They shared a loving marriage that lasted for 60 years, raising three sons, Michael, Matthew, and Jonathan, in their home in Novato.
Professionally, Vern made significant contributions to the community. He worked at Dominican College in San Rafael, where he ran his own company, Nathe Food Service. Later, he became the owner of West Brooklyn Pizza, also in San Rafael. Vern’s dedication to his work was matched by his commitment to his faith. A devoted Christian, he participated in the church choir for many years and regularly supported his church community.
Vern was also known for his love of sports. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of the Marin Country Club. His passion for football was evident as he held season tickets for the San Francisco 49ers from their days at Kezar Stadium through their time at Candlestick Park, eventually passing the tickets on to his sons when the team moved to Santa Clara.
Vern’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements and personal passions. He is remembered as a loyal friend, a devoted family man, and a cherished member of the community. He is survived by his wife, Lou Elsa, three sons, four grandchildren, his sister Ethel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Vern’s life will be held on November 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Loretto located at 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato. The service will begin with a Rosary at 10:30 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM.
As the community reflects on Vern’s life, he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
