The Food Bank for Larimer County is organizing its annual ‘Tour de Turkey’ event on November 20, 2023, encouraging community members to donate frozen turkeys. These donations will be distributed through the food bank’s network to families in need, particularly those connected with local schools, ensuring a festive Thanksgiving meal for many.

The turkey drive is set to take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at two designated locations: the Drake Centre at 802 W. Drake Road in Fort Collins and the Orchards Shopping Center at 261 E. 29th St. in Loveland. Participants are asked to donate turkeys that are frozen solid to guarantee safe transportation and distribution, according to a press release from the Food Bank.

Amy Pezzani, CEO of the Food Bank for Larimer County, highlighted the importance of this initiative, especially following the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. “We know many families will need extra support as they work to recover from lost wages and recoup their November SNAP benefits,” she stated. “We are rallying the community to help us meet our goal this year, ensuring that every one of the 4,700 families in need gets a Thanksgiving turkey.”

In an effort to encourage donations, the first 250 donors at each location will receive a coupon for a six-pack of New Belgium Brewing Company beer. Additionally, $50 gift cards for the brewery will be distributed during the event.

For those who cannot attend on November 20, frozen turkey donations, as well as other birds and hams, will be accepted during business hours at all three Food Bank for Larimer County locations. Donations can be made at their Loveland offices located at 2600 N. Lincoln Ave. and 5706 Wright Drive.

More information about the event and donation guidelines can be found on the Food Bank for Larimer County’s website at FoodBankLarimer.org. This community-driven initiative aims to bring joy and sustenance to families during the Thanksgiving season.
