Beta Cinema Secures International Presales for ‘Operation Napoleon’ Sequel
Beta Cinema has successfully closed multiple international presales for the upcoming sequel to the Nordic conspiracy thriller, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf. Currently in production across Finland, Iceland, and Germany, the film has drawn significant interest from various distributors worldwide.
Among the key deals, Magnolia Pictures has acquired the North American rights, while other agreements have been reached with Signature Entertainment for the UK and Ireland, Mediawan for France, Twelve Oaks for Spain, and Hagi Film for Poland. The original Operation Napoleon was a remarkable success, selling in over 40 territories, including the United States, and performing particularly well in Germany during 2023.
The sequel brings back familiar faces, including Vivian Ólafsdóttir from It Hatched, Jack Fox from Riviera, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for roles in Severance and True Detective. Directing once again is Jyri Kähönen, who previously worked on Trackers and Bordertown. The screenplay is penned by original writer Marteinn Thorisson alongside Tom Weston-Jones, recognized for True Things and Copper.
New to the cast is Laura Birn, noted for her performances in Void and A Walk Among the Tombstones. In this installment, Ólafsdóttir portrays Kristin Jóhannesdóttir, a lawyer who becomes embroiled in an international conspiracy after being falsely accused of murder. The plot follows Kristin and her team as they investigate the legendary “Tears of the Wolf,” a cache of hidden Nazi diamonds from World War II.
As Kristin uncovers encrypted codes and musical clues linked to a murder she witnesses, the story unfolds across Iceland, Finland, and Germany. The climax takes place in Helsinki’s wartime bunkers and the scenic Finnish archipelago, promising an intense and thrilling experience for viewers.
The production is spearheaded by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein from Germany’s Splendid Entertainment, Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Sagafilm (covering Sweden and Iceland), and Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg from Take Two Studios in Finland. Co-production efforts come from Elsani Film.
The film is set to be released theatrically in Iceland by Sam Film, in Germany by Splendid Film, and in Finland by Cinemanse. Beta Cinema is currently showcasing the first promotional reel of Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf at the American Film Market, further generating excitement around this highly anticipated sequel.
