Family of Four Killed in Tragic Christmas Crash in Brazil

UPDATE: A devastating car crash has claimed the lives of a family of four, including two young daughters, while they were driving home for Christmas in Brazil. The tragic accident occurred on December 22, 2023, as Lucas Celestino Reis, 40, and his wife, Jéssica Silva da Hora, 35, were excitedly en route to introduce their youngest child to relatives for the first time.

The family was traveling from Nova Serrana to Ibicuí when disaster struck. Along with their daughters, Ana, eight, and Ísis, three, Jéssica’s 19-year-old niece, Rayane Rebouças da Hora, was also in the vehicle. The group set off in the early hours, but shortly after beginning their journey, they lost contact with another family car driven by Rayane’s father.

When the second vehicle could not locate them, it turned back to check for signs of a return home. After failing to find any trace, they alerted the police. Just hours later, authorities discovered their car overturned in a stream beside the motorway. Tragically, all four family members were found dead inside the vehicle, which was partially submerged.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that Lucas lost control of the car, causing it to veer off the road, strike an embankment, and roll into the stream. The loss has left their family devastated. Lucas’s sister, Lucimar, expressed her heartbreak, stating, “He was coming so we could meet his little daughter, whom we never even got to know. It was meant to be a Christmas full of joy.”

The family had prepared to celebrate a joyful holiday, only to be met with tragedy. The victims were laid to rest in Ibicuí on December 24, 2023, mere days after the harrowing accident.

This incident comes on the heels of another tragic event in Poland, where six people died in a head-on collision involving a Volkswagen Passat and a Ford Kuga on Christmas Eve. The crash, which left one vehicle engulfed in flames, has raised concerns about road safety during the holiday season.
