Dolphins Firm on Keeping Jaylen Waddle Amid Trade Rumors
The Miami Dolphins have made it clear to NFL teams that they are not interested in trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, multiple teams have inquired about acquiring the young star, but the Dolphins are steadfast in their commitment to keeping him.
In a report issued on October 18, 2025, Rapoport noted that some teams have reached out to Miami, only to be informed that Waddle is not on the trading block. He compared the situation to that of Ben Simmons with the Tennessee Titans, suggesting that trading Waddle would indicate a long-term rebuild rather than a focus on immediate success. Given the Dolphins’ current record of 1-5, many observers believe the team should reassess its strategy.
The Dolphins’ stance comes amid speculation that the New York Giants are aggressively seeking to bolster their receiving corps before the trade deadline. Sports reporter Connor Hughes highlighted that the Giants are targeting high-profile players, including Waddle, to support rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Hughes stated, “Multiple sources familiar with the discussions told SNY that New York has been aggressive in its pursuit of adding a pass catcher.”
Waddle has had a notable season thus far, with 29 receptions for 390 yards and three touchdowns. Since being drafted in the first round, he has consistently been a top performer, achieving over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, including 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022. As he approaches his 27th birthday in November, Waddle remains a valuable asset for Miami.
The Dolphins currently face significant challenges, including the league’s worst defense and a struggling offensive line. With a single victory this season against the only winless team, their situation raises questions about their future direction. The rationale behind holding onto Waddle, especially when their performance suggests a need for rebuilding, has drawn skepticism from analysts and fans alike.
While it is understandable that the Dolphins would want to keep a player of Waddle’s caliber, the justification for doing so is puzzling. Many argue that retaining him should be part of a strategy to build a competitive team rather than a belief that they are poised for immediate success.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Dolphins will need to clarify their intentions and strategies to both their fans and the league. The decision to keep Waddle could have lasting implications for the team’s future, as they navigate a challenging season and seek to re-establish themselves as contenders in the coming years.
