URGENT UPDATE: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his family are safe following a frightening break-in at their home last week. The incident occurred on October 26, 2023, while the NBA’s reigning MVP was playing a home game against the Washington Wizards.

In a statement after the Thunder’s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, Gilgeous-Alexander confirmed, “Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters in the whole thing.” He expressed relief that his loved ones were unharmed, stating, “Everything else will come and go, but my loved ones are safe, so I’m OK. I’m happy.”

Local authorities in Nichols Hills reported that they responded to the burglary at approximately 7:45 p.m.. The thieves fled before police arrived, and no arrests have been made. Officials reassured the community, stating, “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”

As of now, police have not disclosed whether anyone was home during the break-in or what items may have been stolen, if anything. The break-in is part of a troubling trend, as professional athletes across the U.S. have increasingly been targeted for their high-value possessions. Notable figures such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Luka Doncic, and Evgeni Malkin have also faced similar home invasions.

Authorities have previously warned sports leagues that these burglaries often occur on game days, capitalizing on the absence of players. Criminals typically smash through rear windows to gain entry.

As the investigation continues, fans and the community are left concerned about safety in the area. Local police are expected to increase patrols and remain vigilant. For now, all eyes remain on the Thunder star, who is grateful for his family’s safety amid this alarming situation.

Stay tuned for further updates as authorities continue to address this ongoing issue affecting athletes nationwide.
