Former School Supervisor Charged with 11 Felony Sex Crimes
BREAKING: Former Visalia Unified School District employee De Jaun Jones has been charged with 11 felony counts of sexual abuse, following disturbing allegations involving multiple teen victims. The charges stem from incidents during the 2022-2023 school year, where he was accused of exchanging nude photos and inappropriately touching a 15-year-old girl while working as a campus supervisor at Mount Whitney High School in Tulare County, California.
Attorney Brendan Gilbert, representing one of the victims, stated, “He’s a textbook predator. He’s victimized minor females essentially everywhere he’s gone in his life at different jobs.” Gilbert also revealed that Jones had a troubling history, having been fired from Mount Whitney High a decade earlier due to similar allegations. “Mount Whitney High School did everything right in 2013. They released Jones from his employment, but then they did everything wrong when they brought him back in 2022,” he emphasized.
The allegations against Jones extend beyond Mount Whitney High. Gilbert is now also representing a second teenager who has accused him of sexual abuse. He noted, “He should not have been rehired by the district in 2022 given that they had released him 10 years before for very serious misconduct.” Further investigations have linked Jones to reports of inappropriate behavior while employed at Monache High School in the Porterville Unified School District and at a local In-Shape gym.
Authorities in Tulare County have reported that at least three young women have come forward with credible allegations against Jones. The Tulare County District Attorney’s office has confirmed the filing of multiple felony counts, highlighting the seriousness of the accusations. Jones’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 13, 2023, and if convicted, he faces significant prison time and mandatory sex offender registration.
Despite repeated attempts to contact the Visalia Unified School District for comments, they have not responded. The community is left grappling with the implications of these charges, raising questions about the safety and oversight of students in the district.
This case has sparked outrage and concern among parents and educators, emphasizing the need for thorough background checks and vigilant monitoring of school personnel. As the situation develops, the district and community await the results of the upcoming hearing.
