Former GOP Rep. Kinzinger Slams Heritage Foundation’s Roberts
URGENT UPDATE: Former Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) unleashed a scathing critique on CNN last night, targeting Kevin Roberts, president of the far-right Heritage Foundation. Kinzinger condemned Roberts’ refusal to denounce Tucker Carlson for hosting notorious white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, igniting a fierce backlash within the organization.
Kinzinger’s comments come as tensions rise within the Heritage Foundation, which is pivotal in shaping former President Donald Trump’s controversial Project 2025 agenda. The fallout from Roberts’ controversial stance has led to divisions among staffers, raising questions about the foundation’s integrity and direction.
During the broadcast, anchor Anderson Cooper pressed Roberts’ comments, stating, “Shouldn’t all Republicans condemn Nick Fuentes’ hateful comments, full stop?” Kinzinger responded emphatically, highlighting the gravity of Trump’s previous invitation to Fuentes for a lunch at Mar-a-Lago alongside rapper Kanye West.
“This is crazy,” Kinzinger remarked. “There’s always been a weird table at GOP events, but now it feels like that firewall is crumbling.” He noted that the Republican Party’s historical separation from extremist factions is dissolving, as some on the right openly accept such ideologies.
Kinzinger elaborated, “The ultimate enemy is the left and the liberals. The fact that it has taken Kevin Roberts this long to condemn Fuentes is a clear indication that the firewall is crumbling.” His comments reflect a growing unease among mainstream politicians regarding the acceptance of extremist views within the party.
Despite the backlash, some Republican figures, like Ted Cruz, have been quicker to speak out against Fuentes. Kinzinger emphasized the necessity of “burning out” such extremism from the party, stating, “Unfortunately, it’s taking too long to do that.”
This developing story underscores a significant shift within the Republican Party, raising critical questions about its future and the ongoing struggle against extremism. As this controversy unfolds, it remains crucial for party leaders to address the growing acceptance of far-right ideologies.
