Aimee Lou Wood Confronts Body Dysmorphia in The White Lotus
Aimee Lou Wood, known for her role in the acclaimed series Sex Education, recently shared her journey with body dysmorphia during filming for The White Lotus Season 3. In a revealing interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she discussed how a pivotal bikini scene reignited her long-standing struggles with body image.
Wood has been candid about her body image issues, a battle she has faced since childhood. During her time on the set of The White Lotus, these insecurities resurfaced. She recalled feeling a wave of discomfort while preparing for her character’s scene, which required her to wear a bikini. Despite these feelings, Wood found a way to channel her character’s confidence to overcome her insecurities.
“I think for that reason a role will hit me in the heart, in the gut,” Wood stated when discussing her connection to acting as a form of therapy. As she portrayed her character, Chelsea, she began to blur the lines between her own feelings and those of her character. “I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does,’” she said, emphasizing the transformative power of acting.
Filmed over several months in Thailand, the immersive environment of the show allowed Wood to embrace her character fully, aiding her in overcoming personal struggles. The third season of the anthology series has received widespread acclaim, with critics and audiences praising Wood’s performance.
Beyond her role in The White Lotus, Wood has additional projects on the horizon, including Anxious People and The Idiots. Her willingness to share her experiences serves as an inspiration to many who face similar challenges with body image. As she continues to navigate her career, Wood remains a powerful advocate for mental health awareness and self-acceptance.
