UPDATE: Major flight cancellations are hitting Love Field and DFW Airport as the government shutdown continues to disrupt air travel. With an estimated 20 fewer departing flights daily at Love Field and 96 fewer at DFW by Friday, November 14, passengers are facing significant delays and uncertainty.

Travelers are urged to stay informed about their flights. Enabling email or text notifications from your airline can provide real-time updates on any changes, including delays or cancellations. This is crucial as air travel becomes increasingly unpredictable.

Southwest Airlines, based in Dallas, announced that flights canceled due to federal air traffic reductions will generally be automatically rebooked, with new itineraries sent to affected passengers. Those needing to modify their travel plans can rebook online without fees for up to 14 days from their original flight date.

Meanwhile, American Airlines, headquartered in Fort Worth, is offering full refunds for canceled flights and allowing free changes for passengers who choose not to travel during this turbulent time. Specific criteria for fee waivers can be found on their website.

Travelers should also download the My TSA app to monitor TSA wait times and get updates on airport conditions. By adding DFW or Love Field to your favorites in the app, you can access real-time data on security lanes and any FAA delays.

Both airports are recommending that passengers arrive early due to ongoing construction. Love Field travelers should aim to arrive at least two hours prior to departure, while DFW suggests arriving two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.

As the situation evolves, travelers should remain vigilant and proactive. Follow your airline’s updates and prepare for potential disruptions in your travel plans. Stay tuned for more developments as authorities continue to navigate this challenging situation.
