UPDATE: A swarm of bees led to a tragic car accident in Arizona on Saturday morning, resulting in one pedestrian’s death and leaving the driver hospitalized. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. local time near the intersection of Mesa Drive and McKellips Road, according to the Mesa Police Department (MPD).

Authorities report that the unidentified driver was transporting a colony of bees when they unexpectedly escaped, causing the driver to be stung and subsequently lose control of the vehicle. The car collided with a pole and struck a pedestrian, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver sustained only minor injuries.

First responders acted quickly, transporting both the driver and the pedestrian to a nearby medical facility. Despite efforts to save him, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, as confirmed by police officials.

Currently, there are no pending charges against the driver, the MPD stated. This incident sheds light on the potential dangers posed by bee swarms, as it is not the first time such a scenario has led to a car crash. In a similar case from May, a man named Steven Daniel experienced a bee attack while mowing grass, resulting in a crash after the bees followed him into his truck.

Past incidents have also highlighted the seriousness of bee-related accidents. In July, another tragic event unfolded in Arizona when one man died, and two others were injured while removing stucco at an independent living facility after being attacked by bees.

The urgent nature of this incident underscores the unpredictable risks associated with transporting live bees. As authorities continue to investigate, attention is now focused on improving safety protocols for transporting and handling bees to prevent future tragedies.
