Austin Animal Services has partnered with Greater Good Charities to provide a free spay and neuter clinic for pets in Austin and Travis County. This initiative runs from November 13 through November 17, 2025, aiming to ease the financial burden on pet owners who may struggle with veterinary expenses.

The clinic will not only offer spay and neuter surgeries but also provide free vaccinations, microchips, and flea and tick prevention treatments. This effort addresses the ongoing issue of animal overpopulation, which contributes to the rise in stray and homeless pets in the area.

According to Rolando Fernandez, Interim Director of Animal Services, “As Austin’s municipal shelter, we’re committed to making sure every pet owner—no matter their income or neighborhood—has access to the services that keep pets healthy and communities safe.” This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote responsible pet ownership and enhance community safety.

Addressing Overpopulation and Community Needs

The clinic marks the sixth event of its kind over the past year, successfully providing surgeries to over 5,000 pets. This time, another 1,200 animals are expected to benefit from the free services. Typically, spay and neuter procedures can cost between $75 and several hundred dollars, often coupled with long waiting times for appointments. The free clinic aims to eliminate these barriers and encourage more pet owners to take advantage of the services.

Pet owners are encouraged to arrive early at the clinic located at 11580 Stonehollow Dr., Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758. Services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration opening at 6:00 am and concluding by 10:00 am daily or until capacity is reached.

Future Initiatives and Community Impact

Organizers are already planning another event for early 2026, continuing their mission to promote responsible pet ownership and community welfare. While the clinic is likely to attract large crowds, the focus remains on the welfare of pets and the positive impact on their owners.

This community-based effort highlights a commitment to accessible healthcare for animals, reinforcing the notion that every creature deserves quality care and a healthy living environment. In a city known for its progressive stance on various issues, Austin’s initiative demonstrates a strong dedication to addressing the needs of both pets and their owners.
