Freshman Logyn Greer Powers CU Buffs to 77-45 Victory
UPDATE: Freshman sensation Logyn Greer delivered a standout performance with a season-high 19 points as the CU Buffs crushed Portland State 77-45 in Boulder, Colorado, earlier today. This decisive victory showcases the Buffs’ potential as they look to build momentum in the season.
The Buffs, now 2-1, demonstrated exceptional defensive prowess, limiting Portland State to just 36.4% shooting and forcing an astonishing 26 turnovers. Greer’s impressive display included six rebounds and ten points scored in the crucial third quarter, helping to expand a 14-point halftime lead into a commanding 23-point advantage by the end of the third.
Head coach JR Payne praised Greer’s development, stating, “Anyone can see Logyn; she’s the type of player who walks in the gym and people say, ‘Who’s that?’” Greer, reflecting on her growth, noted, “At the start of the season, I was like a deer in headlights. But now I’m really starting to get into it.”
Greer’s performance was complemented by a solid team effort, with Zyanna Walker contributing eight points, leading the team with five steals and six assists. Despite a slow start, the Buffs turned the tide with a defensive strategy that forced Portland State into a scoring drought of over six minutes.
Payne also emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “So many different people played. We rebounded incredibly well in the second half.” The Buffs out-rebounded the Vikings 29-8 in the second half, showcasing their dominance.
Looking ahead, the Buffs will host Boise State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the CU Events Center, aiming to continue their winning streak. Fans are eager to see if Greer can maintain this momentum and lead the team further into the season.
This victory not only boosts the Buffs’ confidence but also highlights the rising star potential of Logyn Greer, making her a player to watch as the season progresses.
