North Central and Wheaton Secure Spots in NCAA Division III Playoffs
North Central College and Wheaton College have both earned their places in the NCAA Division III football playoffs, with North Central aiming to defend its championship title. The Cardinals, based in Naperville, Illinois, will seek their fourth title in six years when they face the winner of the upcoming matchup between Muhlenberg and Union on November 29, 2025.
North Central enters the playoffs as the reigning champions, having demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the season. The team averaged over 54 points per game while allowing only 6.6 points per contest. Star running back Donovan Mitchell contributed significantly, accumulating 1,009 rushing yards and scoring seven touchdowns across ten games. Quarterback Garrett Wilson has also been a standout, throwing for 2,078 yards and an impressive 35 touchdowns on just 191 attempts.
Wheaton College, with an 8-2 record, will also be in action, set to compete against Crown on November 22, 2025. The Thunder have shown strong offensive capabilities, averaging 45.8 points per game. Quarterback Mark Forcucci has been prolific, throwing 28 touchdown passes this season. Additionally, running back Matt Crider and wide receiver Seth Kortenhoeven each contributed significantly, with Crider scoring eight rushing touchdowns and Kortenhoeven matching that with eight receiving touchdowns.
In addition to North Central and Wheaton, Monmouth College has also qualified for the playoffs. Located in western Illinois, Monmouth will face Saint John’s University on November 29, 2025. The team has been equally impressive, averaging over 50 points per game while allowing just 6.4 points per contest. Nate Wrublik has been a key player, rushing for 16 touchdowns in nine games. Quarterback Brayden Deem has thrown for 1,995 yards and 24 touchdowns, achieving a passer rating of 143.53.
The upcoming playoff matches promise to deliver exciting action as these teams strive for national recognition. North Central, Wheaton, and Monmouth will each look to leverage their successful seasons as they aim for the coveted championship titles in NCAA Division III football.
