Volkswagen Unveils New T-Roc R with Enhanced Performance Features

BREAKING: Volkswagen has just announced the eagerly anticipated T-Roc R, a performance-packed SUV based on Europe’s fourth best-selling model. The compact crossover has sold an impressive 170,931 units in just ten months this year, according to sales data from Dataforce. Customer deliveries of the new T-Roc are set to begin this month, igniting excitement among fans of the brand.

The upcoming T-Roc R, expected to launch in 2027, is already generating buzz despite being cloaked in camouflage. Notably, it features a distinctive Akrapovič quad-exhaust setup and striking 20-inch forged wheels with wider tires aimed at improving grip. Close-up images shared by Autocritica reveal more aggressive bumpers and larger brakes, hinting at its high-performance capabilities.

Under the hood, the T-Roc R will share its turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with the latest Golf R, delivering an identical output of 328 hp and 295 lb-ft (or 420 Newton-meters) of torque. However, in a significant update, this model will adopt a mild-hybrid setup to enhance efficiency and comply with the upcoming Euro 7 regulations. Although this electrification may not increase power levels beyond the Golf R’s, it marks a pivotal shift in Volkswagen’s performance strategy.

As automakers navigate stricter emissions standards, the T-Roc R will exclusively feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, abandoning the previous six-speed manual option. While the T-Roc R won’t be available in the United States, Volkswagen’s R division is also preparing to phase out the Touareg R, with production set to conclude in 2026. However, the company is hinting at a fully electric R model in the future, having already teased a combustion-free Polo GTI.
