A new initiative in Uniontown aims to provide children with the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of their family’s financial situation. The Ks Foundation, founded by local resident Kia Rose, is dedicated to removing financial barriers for families earning $49,000 or less annually. Rose, a mother of six and a graduate of Uniontown Area High School, understands firsthand the challenges families face when trying to enroll their children in sports programs.

“Sports play a vital role in fostering physical health, teamwork, discipline, and confidence for these young kids,” Rose stated. Through her nonprofit, which was established in July 2023, she aims to ensure that every child has the chance to engage in sports. Rose has witnessed the positive impact sports can have on children’s lives and believes that access should not be limited by financial constraints.

The foundation operates discreetly, ensuring that families seeking assistance can do so without fear of stigma. “Everything is private, so no one will know who is asking for help,” she explained. The Ks Foundation has successfully organized several fundraising events, including a Night at the Oscars Gala held in November at the Uniontown Country Club. These efforts have enabled the foundation to support local children and families.

On December 20, 2023, the foundation hosted a Christmas Toy Drive, providing gifts to at least 40 families. “I’m so grateful and thankful for our community as a whole to be able to get together and help these children so they were able to open something during this holiday season,” Rose remarked.

Looking ahead, the Ks Foundation is set to hold a “Dodge for a Cause” dodgeball tournament on January 25, 2024, at the Uniontown YMCA. This event aims to raise further funds and awareness for the cause. While the current focus is on children within Fayette County, Rose has ambitious plans for the foundation’s future. She hopes to eventually expand its reach to neighboring counties and, ultimately, throughout the state.

“It has to start somewhere. Every child deserves a chance to play, grow, and succeed,” Rose emphasized. Individuals interested in supporting the foundation can reach out via its Facebook page or by calling 724-434-9061. The foundation is also in the process of establishing a dedicated website to facilitate donations and community engagement.
