Community Remembers Gloria Rosencrants, 94, an Artistic Spirit
Gloria Rosencrants, a cherished member of the Rochester community, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 94. Known for her vibrant spirit and artistic talents, Gloria’s life was deeply intertwined with her family and local organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Rosencrants, who died on July 9, 2025.
Born in South St. Paul, Minnesota, Gloria was the daughter of William and Ann Leimbek. She attended South St. Paul High School, where she met Ed, the love of her life. Their wedding took place on June 20, 1953, and their enduring love was celebrated through the tradition of exchanging love letters every Christmas for over seven decades.
Gloria pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, majoring in art. Her artistic journey led her to become a recognized freelance artist, earning accolades from local and state organizations. She collaborated with businesses such as K&K Realty and Edina Realty, in addition to contributing her talents to the Historical Societies of Rochester and Olmsted County.
Beyond her painting, Gloria’s skills extended to quilting and Norwegian Hardanger needlework. Her dedication to preserving her cultural heritage earned her the title of Norwegian Cultural Skills Specialist from the Sons of Norway.
In her community, Gloria was a passionate leader with the Girl Scouts, dedicating years to empower young girls. She guided her three daughters and numerous other girls from Brownies to First Class Senior Scouts, instilling confidence and leadership skills.
Gloria’s commitment to her faith was evident through her long-standing membership at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where she contributed to the Altar Guild and participated in various fundraising events. Since joining in 1960, she became a familiar face, involved in numerous church activities.
In addition to her community service, Gloria enjoyed an active social life. She participated in golf leagues, bridge clubs, and was an avid cross-country skier. Gloria and Ed were well-known for their graceful dancing, often captivating audiences on the dance floor.
Gloria’s legacy lives on through her family. She is survived by her daughters, Robin (Tom) Kleinert, Gail Cook, and Diana (Keith) Kressin; five grandchildren, including Justin (Heather) Cook and Chris Cook; and two great-grandchildren, Henry and Malcolm Oldenburg.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on November 15, 2025, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, located at 2830 18th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church or the Girl Scouts of Minnesota. As a tribute to her love for the organization, visitors are encouraged to support local Girl Scout Cookie sales in February.
Gloria Rosencrants will be remembered not only for her artistic contributions but also for her unwavering commitment to family, community, and the joy of living generously.
