Discovery Shoppe League Donates $15,000 to Local School
The Discovery Shoppe League, a non-profit organization operating in Chico, California, since 1959, made a significant contribution to local education on October 29, 2023. During a ceremony held at the shoppe, volunteer Shelley Tedford presented a check for $15,000 to Parker Bush, a teacher at Shasta Elementary School, alongside students Emma Barnum and Nick Bonacich. The funds will support fifth-grade students’ participation in the Shady Creek Environmental Camp, a four-day, three-night adventure designed to enhance their learning experiences.
The Discovery Shoppe, located at 315 Flume Street in Chico, is entirely volunteer-run, with all proceeds directed back into the community. This year, the organization plans to distribute more than $165,381 to a total of sixteen charities, further demonstrating its commitment to local philanthropic efforts.
The funds awarded to Shasta Elementary School will enable students to engage with nature and learn about the environment in a hands-on setting. The camp experience is expected to foster teamwork, problem-solving, and environmental stewardship among the participants.
The Discovery Shoppe League invites community members to contribute to its mission. Donations and volunteer opportunities are always welcome, as the organization relies on local support to continue its charitable work. For those interested in participating, more information can be found at their location or on their website.
As a platform for community engagement, the Discovery Shoppe also encourages residents to submit photos for its “Snapshots” feature, showcasing local events and activities. This initiative aims to highlight the vibrant community spirit of Chico and celebrate the accomplishments of its residents.
Overall, the recent donation reflects the ongoing commitment of The Discovery Shoppe League to positively impact local schools and community programs. Through its efforts, the organization plays a vital role in enhancing educational opportunities for young students in the area.
