Brooklyn Leads Early Voting in New York City Ahead of Election
More than 240,000 residents of Brooklyn participated in early voting for the upcoming election, leading all boroughs in New York City. The early voting period concluded on November 2, 2023, with a total of 243,737 voters from Brooklyn, outpacing those from Manhattan by approximately 31,000 votes, according to the latest unofficial data from the New York City Board of Elections.
Areas such as DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Park Slope, and Windsor Terrace saw the highest participation rates. Conversely, neighborhoods including Ocean Hill, Brownsville, East New York, Starrett City, East Flatbush, Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, and Coney Island reported lower turnout figures, as highlighted by preliminary statistics from the Board of Elections.
Demographic data shows that early voting was particularly popular among younger generations. Over 45,000 Millennial voters (born between 1981 and 1996) cast their ballots. Additionally, around 40,000 Gen X voters (born between 1965 and 1980) and 32,000 Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) also participated in the early voting process.
As the city prepares for the general election on November 4, 2023, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to select their next mayor, city council members, and other key positions. The high early voting numbers in Brooklyn reflect a growing engagement among residents in the electoral process, signaling a proactive approach to civic participation.
