Over 1,000 Join ICAN’s Inclusive Halloween Festival in Torrance
More than 1,000 children and adults with disabilities gathered at the Southern California Regional Occupational Center in Torrance on October 25, 2025, for ICAN’s 13th annual Halloween Festival. This event, organized by ICAN, a nonprofit serving adults with disabilities, is specifically tailored to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for individuals facing various challenges.
ICAN ensures the festival is accessible and accommodating, featuring ADA-compliant facilities, activities designed for those with light or sound sensitivities, and adapted games for all abilities. According to ICAN Executive Director Scott Elliott, “In the disabled community, this is the event for Halloween. It’s just a unique event that’s inclusive and understanding of people.” He emphasized that the festival offers a space for individuals and families to connect in a thoughtful environment that addresses their specific needs.
Elliott noted that traditional Halloween celebrations can often pose challenges for those with disabilities. The ICAN Halloween Festival, by contrast, provides a safe and enjoyable alternative, allowing participants to engage without concerns about sensory triggers or safety issues. The event’s thoughtful planning reflects ICAN’s commitment to fostering community and inclusion.
ICAN focuses on continuing the support that individuals with disabilities receive through public or private education into adulthood. The organization offers resources to assist disabled adults in finding employment, engaging with their communities, and building lasting friendships. “We strive to be one of the organizations that help quarterbacks in helping families to understand the landscape of disability services for adults,” Elliott stated. “We offer that ongoing long-term life support to make sure that they have a team behind them for success.”
With offices located in Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Long Beach, ICAN serves over 750 people each month. The organization actively encourages those interested in utilizing their services or volunteering to visit their website at ican.org.
The festival not only highlighted the joyous spirit of Halloween but also reinforced the importance of inclusivity and community support for individuals with disabilities. As the event concluded, participants left with smiles, having enjoyed a day dedicated to fun, friendship, and acceptance.
