ExoMod’s 2022 Challenger Transforms into Unique 1969 Daytona Tribute
A custom-built 2022 Dodge Challenger has been transformed into a striking tribute to the classic 1969 Dodge Daytona by ExoMod. This unique vehicle features a powerful 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine from the Hellcat, delivering an impressive 797 horsepower. It is scheduled to go up for auction in January 2024 at Barrett Jackson, making it one of the most intriguing listings of the year.
From Modern Muscle to Classic Tribute
ExoMod’s creation took approximately 3,500 hours to complete, during which every original body panel was replaced with hand-shaped carbon fiber. The result is a car that resembles the vintage Daytona while incorporating modern performance technology. The transformation is not just cosmetic; the new body design enhances both aesthetics and aerodynamics.
The most noticeable feature of this custom build is the new nose, which pays homage to the classic Daytona. While the original has a sleek and aggressive look, the modified version presents a more bulbous appearance. Despite mixed reactions to the design, the car captures attention and generates discussion among automotive enthusiasts.
Performance and Features
Beyond its striking exterior, the Challenger retains its formidable performance capabilities. The Hellcat’s engine remains untouched, ensuring that the vehicle’s power continues to rival many high-end supercars. It utilizes an original eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to robust 315/35 ZR20 rear tires. This setup allows the vehicle to maintain its status as a muscle car icon while embracing modern upgrades.
In terms of dimensions, this customized Challenger is now 4 inches wider and 5.5 inches shorter than its 1969 counterpart. The rear area features a prominent wing similar to the original Daytona, complemented by a carbon fiber rear diffuser and dual exhausts that exit from the center of the bumper.
While the exterior has undergone significant changes, the interior remains largely standard, with only minor updates to the seats and door panels. This decision may disappoint some purists who expect a complete overhaul in such a unique build.
At the 2023 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, this Challenger was awarded the Super Street/Modified Blue Ribbon Award, achieving an impressive score of 998 out of 1,000 points. This accolade highlights the craftsmanship and attention to detail that ExoMod has invested in this project.
For those intrigued by the fusion of classic design and modern engineering, the full listing can be found on Barrett Jackson’s website. As the auction approaches, automotive fans and collectors will have the opportunity to determine whether this car represents brilliance, eccentricity, or perhaps a combination of both.
