Panthers’ Passing Game Falters as Young Struggles Against Saints
The Carolina Panthers faced a significant setback in their passing game during a critical match against the New Orleans Saints on November 5, 2025. The Panthers, who had previously enjoyed a four-game winning streak, fell short with a 17-7 defeat, exposing serious flaws in their aerial attack led by quarterback Bryce Young.
Young, the third-year quarterback from Alabama, has struggled to find his rhythm this season. Despite a promising start, where he threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, his performance has declined sharply over the past eight games. In fact, he has surpassed the 200-yard mark only once this year.
The game against the Saints highlighted the vulnerabilities of the Panthers’ offense. After an impressive first quarter, the Panthers failed to score for the final 52 minutes. Young’s interception in the fourth quarter allowed New Orleans to extend their lead to ten points, a pivotal moment that underscored the dire state of the passing game. Despite opportunities provided by the Panthers’ defense, Young and the offense could not capitalize, raising concerns about their playoff aspirations.
The Panthers had relied heavily on their running game during their recent successes, rushing for at least 125 yards in each of their four consecutive victories. This strategy shifted dramatically when the Saints effectively neutralized the run, limiting Carolina to just 73 yards on the ground. Consequently, Young was thrust into a position where he needed to lead the offense, a challenge he struggled to meet.
In the aftermath of what many consider one of his best performances of the season—a commendable 199 yards and three touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys—Young has only managed a total of 364 yards and one touchdown in his last three outings. His current completion percentage stands at 61.7 percent, placing him in the bottom tier of quarterbacks in the league. The ratio of 11 touchdowns to 7 interceptions suggests minimal growth since his rookie year, raising questions about his development and leadership under pressure.
While Young exhibits potential as a quarterback, the inconsistency evident in his play poses significant challenges for the Panthers. If the team hopes to make a serious push for the postseason, it is essential for Young to adapt and enhance his performance, particularly in high-stakes situations. As the Panthers navigate the remainder of the season, finding a reliable passing game will be crucial to their success.
