UPDATE: The Baltimore Orioles have just announced a significant move to bolster their roster by re-signing right-hander Zach Eflin to a one-year contract worth $10 million. This deal comes as the team looks to rebound after a disappointing 2025 season.

Sources confirmed to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez that Eflin’s contract includes a mutual option for the 2027 season and a $500,000 bonus if he is traded. This strategic signing is part of the Orioles’ ongoing efforts to improve their pitching rotation, which ranked 24th in the majors in ERA last season.

Eflin, now 31, struggled with injuries throughout the 2025 season, spending time on the injured list three times due to lat and back issues. He recorded a 5.93 ERA over 14 starts, a stark contrast to his impressive 2.60 ERA in nine starts after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2024 trade deadline.

As the Orioles gear up for the 2026 season, Eflin is expected to take on a back-end rotation role alongside a healthier cast, including Trevor Rogers, who recently had a breakout campaign, Kyle Bradish, and newly acquired Shane Baz from the Rays.

Team president of baseball operations Mike Elias has made improving the rotation one of his three main priorities this winter, following a 75-win last-place finish in a highly competitive American League East. The Orioles have already made moves to address their bullpen and power needs, signing closer Ryan Helsley to a two-year, $28 million deal, trading pitcher Grayson Rodriguez for outfielder Taylor Ward, and securing first baseman Pete Alonso with a five-year, $155 million contract.

With the offseason still in full swing, the Orioles may continue to enhance their depth chart before the upcoming season. Fans will be eager to see how these strategic decisions impact the team’s performance in 2026.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Orioles finalize their roster and prepare for the upcoming season.
