UPDATE: Fairview High School’s football team delivered a stunning performance, defeating Arapahoe High School 78-28 in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs at Recht Field on November 14, 2025. This decisive victory marks a significant moment for the Knights, showcasing their offensive power and playoff readiness.

The game began with a competitive first quarter, ending with Arapahoe leading 21-15. However, the tide quickly turned as Fairview’s standout junior quarterback, Ki Ellison, and senior wide receiver, Sabi Ruttgers, unleashed their formidable skills. Ellison recorded an impressive 311 passing yards and 115 rushing yards, while Ruttgers contributed 244 total yards and five touchdowns.

“I always knew I was good, but this honestly proved it to myself and honestly the state too,” Ruttgers stated. “Everyone was told it’d be a real close game, and we came out here and mercy-ruled them. It’s insane.”

The Knights’ offensive onslaught continued as senior Toray Davis added three touchdowns to the scoreboard, with Asher Allen and Ryan Rutherford each scoring once. Fairview’s ability to capitalize on opportunities was evident, including a blocked punt that led to a touchdown pass to Davis, further widening their lead.

Despite early momentum for Arapahoe, the Knights’ defense made pivotal stops, turning the tide of the game. Ellison’s interception of Arapahoe’s quarterback, combined with Davis’ defensive prowess, helped secure Fairview’s commanding lead at halftime. “I knew my moment was coming. I was ready. I just jumped the route,” Ellison commented after his key interception.

As the game progressed, Fairview’s dominance became undeniable. The Knights not only showcased their offensive abilities but also demonstrated resilience on defense, stifling Arapahoe’s efforts to regain control. With this victory, Fairview now prepares to face the top-seeded Cherry Creek next week at Stutler Bowl, where they aim to continue their playoff journey.

Head coach Tom McCartney expressed pride in his team’s performance, emphasizing respect for their opponents from the Cherry Creek league. “There’s such a hunger for victory, and you really want to play the best teams. When No. 8 plays No. 9, it’s a top-10 matchup,” he said.

Fairview’s explosive win over Arapahoe not only advances them in the playoffs but also sends a clear message to their future opponents: this team is ready to compete at the highest level. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how they will perform against Cherry Creek as they continue their pursuit of a state championship.

Stay tuned for updates as the playoffs progress!
