UPDATE: In a stunning performance, freshman Cameron Boozer scored 35 points for the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils, leading them to a commanding 100-62 victory over Indiana State on November 10, 2023. This impressive feat ties him for the second-most points by a Duke freshman in a single game, trailing only Cooper Flagg‘s record of 42 points set last season against Notre Dame.

Boozer’s scoring explosion comes just four games into his college career, placing him alongside legends like Zion Williamson and Jared McCain, who also scored 35 points in their freshman years. His performance marks a significant milestone, surpassing former Blue Devils stars Marvin Bagley III and JJ Redick, both of whom scored less in their debut seasons.

“Just his approach… he’s such a competitor,” said Duke coach Jon Scheyer, highlighting Boozer’s relentless drive. The freshman shot an impressive 81.3% from the field, hitting 13 of 16 shots and nailing both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Despite some struggles at the free-throw line, where he went 7-for-11, his overall efficiency left fans and coaches in awe.

“I don’t know how you could be more efficient,” Scheyer remarked. “I think his three misses, he got all the rebounds and scored them.”

Boozer also dominated the glass with a team-high 12 rebounds and contributed 5 assists, showcasing his all-around game. “He gets it down in the paint, he’s going to attack the rim, it’s hard to stop him,” noted teammate Caleb Foster.

As the season progresses, Boozer is averaging an impressive 22.5 points per game, and his next challenge awaits on Tuesday night when Duke faces No. 25 Kansas in New York. With such a promising start, expectations are soaring, and the Blue Devils are gearing up for a thrilling matchup.

Coach Scheyer emphasized the need for Boozer to be even more aggressive in his scoring, stating, “I just think it speaks to his character. I actually want him to be more aggressive with his scoring. I thought he was doing a great job of getting others open.”

This remarkable performance not only places Boozer among Duke’s elite freshmen but also has the potential to reshape the landscape of college basketball this season. As the Blue Devils continue their campaign, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this young star develops.
