Gerald R. Cote, Former GE VP, Passes Away at 85 in Niskayuna
UPDATE: Gerald R. Cote, a prominent figure in the engineering world and former Vice President at General Electric, has passed away at the age of 85. He died on November 12, 2023, at his home in Niskayuna, NY, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and passion.
Born on July 21, 1940, in Derry, NH, Cote was the son of Rene and Germaine Cote. He graduated from Pinkerton High School and went on to earn a degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His career at General Electric spanned over three decades, during which he held various roles across multiple locations in the United States, ultimately rising to the rank of Vice President.
Cote’s distinguished career at GE included significant assignments in Louisville, KY, and Schenectady, NY. Known for his dedication and expertise, he made a lasting impact on the company and the engineering sector.
In July 1963, Cote married his beloved wife, Sally, with whom he shared years filled with joy and adventure. A passionate sports enthusiast, he excelled in three sports during high school and played football in college. He cherished the moments spent coaching his late son, Brian, in little league and high school baseball.
Later in life, golf became a significant passion for Cote, where he enjoyed both competition and leisure with friends and family. He was also a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, never missing a game.
Cote is survived by his two sons, Andrew (Sydney) and Christopher (Julia), as well as two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his wife, Sally, and his son, Brian.
In accordance with Cote’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Those wishing to honor his memory can make contributions to the Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
This news not only marks the loss of a significant leader in the engineering community but also highlights the personal legacy he leaves behind through his family and friends. Cote’s life serves as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on both their profession and loved ones.
