Sally L. VanNostrand, Beloved Community Member, Passes Away at 88

URGENT UPDATE: Sally L. VanNostrand, a cherished figure in the Gloversville community, has passed away at the age of 88. She died at her home on November 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and unwavering support.

Born on October 2, 1937, in Gloversville, NY, Sally was known for her dedication to family and community. Throughout her life, she was a pillar in her neighborhood, working for the Leader Herald, where she delivered papers for many years, and contributing her skills in leather trimming at Potter’s Leather Co.

Sally was an enthusiastic member of the Foresters Club, where she actively participated in various club activities. However, her most significant role was as a devoted wife and mother. Her family remembers her for the countless delicious meals she prepared, including her famous Sunday Suppers, which often featured roast beef from Bowmans Meat Market and her signature chocolate mayonnaise cake.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas VanNostrand, and her three children: son William Sr. (Jennifer), daughter Jodi (Tim), and son James. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, including William VanNostrand Jr., Dane Dillenback, and Emily VanNostrand, as well as several great-grandchildren and extended family members.

Sally’s life was rich with love and connections. She was affectionately known as “Ma” and “Gram” to many beyond her immediate family. Her joy in life was evident during Sunday afternoon rides in the Adirondacks, where she delighted in the beauty of nature and spent time with loved ones.

In her honor, memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, located at 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.

This heartfelt loss resonates deeply within the community, highlighting the impact Sally had on countless lives. Her legacy of love, family, and community service will not be forgotten.
