Showers and Thunderstorms Hit Utah: What to Expect Today
UPDATE: Showers and thunderstorms are sweeping across Utah today, bringing a mix of weather conditions that residents need to prepare for. As of now, daytime highs are reaching the low to mid 60s in most areas, with warmer temperatures in the 70s for southern valleys, including the warm spots like St. George.
Moisture from the southwest is moving in, and isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact southern and central Utah throughout the day. Although rainfall will be limited, the potential for brief storms means it’s crucial to stay alert. The mountainous regions are likely to see the most activity, but valleys, including the St. George metro and Cedar City, should also prepare for possible showers.
As we move into the evening, showers could extend as far north as Provo and possibly reach the Salt Lake Valley. However, any precipitation will be light and short-lived, with most activity starting to fizzle out by early tomorrow morning.
Looking ahead to Thursday, wrap-around moisture may keep light showers in the southwest until around noon but will dissipate shortly thereafter. Eastern Utah will experience continued impacts from lingering showers throughout the afternoon and evening.
By Friday, high pressure is set to build, ushering in pleasant conditions and temperatures hovering around seasonal averages. The weekend is expected to kick off on a positive note, with temperatures slightly above average. However, keep an eye on the clouds, as a significant weather system is scheduled to arrive by Sunday morning.
A cold front will introduce scattered showers across northern Utah on Sunday, leading to a notable drop in temperatures. Forecasts predict daytime highs plummeting into the 40s and 50s for northern valleys, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. Southern Utah will remain mostly dry but will see a slight decrease in temperatures paired with increasing cloud cover.
Utah residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest developments through the 4Warn Weather forecast, available both on-air and online. Be prepared for changing conditions and ensure safety during potential thunderstorms.
“Stay alert and keep an eye on the skies as we navigate this dynamic weather pattern,” advised the 4Warn Weather Team.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Stay safe, Utah!
