UPDATE: Preliminary results from the 2025 general municipal election reveal significant political changes in Utah County, with new mayors poised to take office in several key cities. As of November 7, 2025, these early results signal a potential end to long-standing leadership in both Vineyard and Orem.

In Vineyard, entrepreneur Zack Stratton leads with a commanding 58% of the vote against City Councilwoman Mardi Sifuentes, who has garnered 41%. This election marks a pivotal moment for the city, as incumbent mayor Julie Fullmer has chosen not to seek reelection after eight years in office. Fullmer’s tenure was marked by controversy, including accusations of corruption from City Councilman Jacob Holdaway, who has publicly supported Stratton. A win for Stratton could signal a dramatic shift in the council’s dynamics and policies moving forward.

Vineyard residents also voted on a new council member, with Parker McCumber currently leading the race at 21%. Following closely are Jacob Wood at 20.6% and David Lauret with 20.2%. Current Councilman Brett Clawson trails behind with nearly 14%.

Meanwhile, in Orem, Mayor David Young faces a potential defeat as he runs for reelection. Preliminary results indicate that Karen McCandless, former City Council member and CEO of Community Action Services and Food Bank, leads with 52% of the vote, while Young holds 47%. Young’s administration has been controversial, particularly his push for a city-only school that voters rejected.

This election is crucial for both cities, as the outcomes will shape local governance and community priorities. Residents are urged to stay tuned for final results, which will confirm whether these shifts in leadership will be realized.

As the counting continues, these races are drawing significant attention across Utah County, highlighting the evolving political landscape and the impact on local communities.
