Rolette Record Sold: Cando Editors Take Over Local Newspaper
The sale of the Rolette Record, a local newspaper in Rolette, North Dakota, marks a significant change in its ownership structure. On November 30, 1929, the paper was sold to Roy B. Miller, the owner and editor of the Cando Record, and his associate Gene Farley, who has worked with Miller for five years as a linotype operator. The transition reflects a new chapter for the publication, which has been part of the community for over 25 years.
The announcement came from a group of farmers who had owned the Rolette Record. Under the previous management, E. W. Dickinson, who served as the managing editor, will leave his position. His future plans have not yet been disclosed. This sale emphasizes the ongoing evolution of local journalism in the region, driven by the needs and interests of the community.
New Leadership Takes Charge
Established in 1904 by Charles W. Sibley, the Rolette Record has maintained an independent political stance throughout its history. The new ownership intends to uphold this tradition. Gene Farley will take on the role of editor, bringing fresh perspectives to the paper, while Roy B. Miller will continue to oversee operations from Cando.
Joseph Lemieux, a local resident, will serve as Farley’s assistant, helping to facilitate a smooth transition for the publication. The first issue under the new editorial team is set to be released next week, marking a new beginning for the newspaper and its dedicated readership.
The sale of the Rolette Record signifies more than just a change in management; it underscores the resilience of local journalism and its capacity to adapt to new ownership while preserving the values that have sustained it for decades. As Miller and Farley prepare to take the reins, many in the community anticipate the new direction and vision they will bring to this long-standing publication.
