Buccaneers Rookie Emeka Egbuka Returns to Practice Ahead of Key Game
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received encouraging news as rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka returned to practice on Saturday following a hamstring injury sustained during last Sunday’s victory against the San Francisco 49ers. Egbuka’s participation raises hopes for his availability in the upcoming Monday night game against the Detroit Lions.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Egbuka was limited in practice and classified him as a game-time decision. “It’s possible,” Bowles stated regarding Egbuka’s potential participation, adding, “it’s not definite. This is going to go all the way up until game time. He wants to play, but it all depends on how he feels and how he looks.”
Egbuka, who recently celebrated his 23rd birthday, has emerged as a key player for the Buccaneers. He leads the team with 27 receptions for 469 yards and five touchdowns this season, having played more than half the offensive snaps in the game against San Francisco.
Injury Updates and Player Returns
The Buccaneers are also optimistic about the return of another key receiver, Mike Evans, who participated in practice for the second consecutive day following a three-game absence due to a hamstring strain. Additionally, linebacker Lavonte David has returned to practice after dealing with knee and rib injuries.
Other players expected to contribute include cornerbacks Zyon McCollum, who is recovering from a thumb injury, and Benjamin Morrison, who is managing a hamstring issue. Bowles reassured that McCollum would not face any limitations in his performance, stating, “He can do everything.”
On the injury front, the Buccaneers will be without running backs Bucky Irving (shoulder/foot) and Josh Williams (concussion), as well as receiver Chris Godwin (fibula) and guard Luke Haggard (shoulder).
Adding to the positive news, guard Mike Jordan, who missed games earlier this season due to a knee injury, made progress in practice and could be available for Monday’s matchup. “He’s making some progress,” Bowles noted, indicating Jordan’s potential return would bolster the offensive line.
As the Buccaneers prepare for this crucial game, the health and performance of these key players will be pivotal in their quest for victory against the Lions.
