A collaborative effort in Chicago is set to provide meals for residents in need this Thanksgiving. The initiative, named “Home for the Holidays,” brings together Ignite-Futures with Promise and Rock of Our Salvation Church, alongside Chef Ora Triest. This annual dinner aims to support the local homeless community by offering free meals and creating a sense of togetherness during the holiday season.

The event will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023, at 5628 West Washington Boulevard. Serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m., with meals provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Chef Ora, who is passionate about giving back to her community, emphasized the importance of unity during the holiday season.

“During the holidays, it’s important that we come together as a community to help those who are in need,” Chef Ora stated. “I enjoy serving and sharing my love for cooking. This is a part of my mission as a chef and a Black woman from Chicago.” Her dedication to this cause is reflected in her commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all attendees.

The annual dinner not only addresses immediate food insecurity but also fosters community spirit. Volunteers and local organizations are encouraged to participate in the effort, whether through food preparation, serving meals, or providing donations. Chef Ora has expressed hope that this initiative will inspire others to contribute to similar efforts throughout the year.

Local media outlet ABC7 Chicago featured Chef Ora in a recent interview, where she elaborated on her vision for the event and the positive impact it can have on those experiencing homelessness in the area. By bringing people together, she aims to create a more compassionate community during the holidays.

As Thanksgiving approaches, “Home for the Holidays” stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration. The initiative highlights the critical role that local organizations and individuals play in addressing food insecurity and supporting those in need. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of generosity and compassion, particularly during the holiday season.
