Rancho Cordova Proposes $25,000 Incentive for Local Businesses
Rancho Cordova is considering a new initiative that could provide financial support to local businesses, with the goal of enhancing the city’s dining and entertainment options. The city council is evaluating a proposal that would allocate up to $25,000 per business, funded by a recent sales tax increase approved by voters. This effort aims to attract family-friendly venues and diversify recreational offerings for residents.
Local residents have expressed a desire for more entertainment choices. Longtime resident Debbie Godinez highlighted the need for greater variety, stating, “It would be nice if we had more options.” Her sentiments reflect a common concern among the community, which has called for an expanded selection of local hotspots.
Support from Local Businesses and City Officials
The proposed retail incentive program seeks to retain spending within the city. Joe Little, a member of the city council, emphasized the dual benefits of the initiative, noting, “We’re always looking for things for people to do in the city, rather than go spend their money elsewhere.” This strategy aims to stimulate economic growth while improving the overall quality of life for residents.
Business owners have also recognized the potential for growth. Donald Durbin, owner of All-Star Karting, views the ongoing development as an opportunity. “With the new homes being constructed close by and businesses growing in the area, we’ve definitely seen a lot more people looking for things to do outside and have a good time,” he stated.
New businesses such as Pek-a-Boo Factory have already begun to establish themselves in Rancho Cordova, targeting the family-oriented demographic. Gabby Hernandez from Peek-a-Boo Factory noted that Rancho Cordova has “the greatest growing population of kids and families in the entire Greater Sacramento area.” This demographic trend underscores the city’s potential as a hub for family-friendly activities.
Conditions and Future Deliberations
While the proposal has generated enthusiasm, businesses that accept the incentive would be required to remain in the city for a minimum of five years. Should they fail to comply, they would need to return the funding. The city council is scheduled to discuss this measure on Monday, March 25, 2024, marking a significant step in Rancho Cordova’s ongoing transformation and economic development.
If approved, this initiative could play a crucial role in reshaping the local entertainment landscape, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. As Rancho Cordova continues to grow, the city aims to become a destination for quality family experiences and increased local spending.
