Glen Powell made his long-awaited debut as the host of *Saturday Night Live* (SNL) on October 14, 2023, a role that had been four years in the making. During his monologue, Powell addressed a unique anecdote involving a UPS driver named Mitch, who for years doubted Powell’s claims of being selected to host the show. In a surprising twist, Powell invited Mitch to Studio 8H, marking a heartfelt reunion that underscored the actor’s determination to validate his story.

Powell first received the hosting offer for SNL’s Christmas show in December 2021. At that time, he celebrated with Mitch, who had just delivered a package to his home. However, when the release of his film *Top Gun: Maverick* was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SNL’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, rescinded the invitation. Powell recounted Michaels’ comment: “Without *Top Gun*, no one will know who the f— you are.” As a result, Powell never hosted, leaving Mitch to believe he had been misled.

“Four years later, this UPS driver was going around saying Glen Powell is a liar,” the 37-year-old actor quipped during his opening remarks. His comedic approach lightened the mood as he detailed how his sisters tracked down Mitch’s cell phone number to facilitate their reunion. “This is real: my sisters tracked him down—because the women in my family are terrifying,” Powell explained, showcasing his family’s commitment to proving his honesty.

In a bid to affirm his credibility, Powell flew Mitch to New York, saying, “I don’t know how *Running Man* is going to do, yet.” Despite his initial doubts, Mitch agreed to attend the show, which added an emotional layer to Powell’s hosting debut. The two men recreated the celebratory photo taken years ago, closing the chapter on a peculiar misunderstanding.

Powell humorously reflected on the experience, noting, “I had to wait my entire life plus four years to be here, but if I know anything, it’s that the best things in life don’t happen overnight.” He concluded with a nod to the UPS driver, emphasizing that nobody understands this better than those who deliver packages.

The heartfelt moment resonated with viewers and highlighted Powell’s journey from uncertainty to triumph on one of television’s most beloved stages.
