Arizona Cardinals Evaluate Three Quarterbacks Ahead of Practices
The Arizona Cardinals recently conducted workouts for three quarterbacks: Kyle Trask, Logan Woodside, and Jeff Driskel. This evaluation comes as the team prepares for their upcoming practices, starting tomorrow, ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. With Kyler Murray reportedly recovering from injury, the Cardinals are exploring options to strengthen their quarterback room.
As reported by PHNX’s Bo Brack, Trask, Woodside, and Driskel showcased their skills during try-outs, indicating the Cardinals’ interest in bolstering their roster. Currently, the team has Kedon Slovis as their third-string quarterback, but his position is uncertain if the Cardinals decide to go in a different direction.
Quarterback Profiles
Kyle Trask (6-5, 236 lbs) is a 27-year-old quarterback with four years of experience in the NFL, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite not starting a game, he has appeared in seven contests, completing 4 of 11 passes for 28 yards. Trask was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft, demonstrating significant potential during his college career.
Logan Woodside (6-1, 213 lbs), a former seventh-round pick, has been in the league since 2018. He spent the 2019 season with the San Antonio Commanders in the AAF, and throughout his career, he has played in 13 games. His most recent appearance was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023.
Jeff Driskel is 32 years old, standing at 6-4 and weighing 231 lbs. He has bounced between multiple teams since entering the NFL in 2016, including a stint with the Cardinals in 2023, where he was part of the practice squad before being signed by the Cleveland Browns. His diverse experience could provide valuable insight to the Cardinals’ coaching staff.
Cardinals’ Offensive Strategy
As the Cardinals navigate their quarterback situation, they face the critical challenge of improving their offensive performance. Regardless of whether Murray or Brissett is behind center, the team must find a way to outscore their opponents. Head coach Jonathan Gannon emphasized the importance of preparation and execution in close games, stating, “Typically, 70% of games come down to a one-score game in the fourth quarter.” He added that understanding how to come back from behind or hold a lead is vital for success.
The Cardinals also held workouts for four wide receivers and two tight ends, including Jalen Brooks, Brenden Rice, Roc Taylor, and Jalen Virgil at wide receiver, along with tight ends Oscar Cardenas and Messiah Swinson. This indicates a comprehensive approach in evaluating potential talent to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.
As the Cardinals gear up for their practices, they will likely make decisions based on these try-outs. With the NFL season progressing, the team’s ability to adapt and refine its roster will be crucial for their performance in the coming weeks.
