UPDATE: Hyrox’s founder, Christian Toetzke, has just confirmed that the popular fitness competition is structured to separate participants based on fitness levels, ensuring that “normal people” do not have to compete against those resembling “Greek statues.” This revelation was made during an episode of the “Opening Bid” podcast released earlier today.

Toetzke emphasized that the competition features two distinct categories: the open and pro. Participants in the pro category face more challenging requirements, including heavier weights, while the open category is designed for those with varying fitness levels. “That was on purpose,” Toetzke explained to podcast host Brian Sozzi, clarifying that this separation allows for a more equitable competition experience.

Hyrox has seen explosive growth since its inception in 2017 in Germany. The organization plans to host over 80 competitions globally in 2025, with a staggering 550,000 participants anticipated. The events require competitors to navigate eight functional workout stations, running one kilometer between each, performing exercises such as sled pushes and burpee broad jumps.

The demand for tickets has surged, with enthusiasts comparing the rush to secure spots to high-profile events like Glastonbury or Taylor Swift’s concerts. Tickets are priced at approximately 110 USD, making them a hot commodity among fitness fans.

Toetzke also expressed ambitions to elevate Hyrox to Olympic status, aiming for inclusion in the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia. He revealed plans to present a proposal to the International Olympic Committee soon, advocating for gym fitness to be represented at the Olympic Games. “Gym fitness has to be represented at the Olympic Games,” he stated passionately.

This latest news is vital for fitness enthusiasts and competitive athletes alike, as it underscores the inclusive nature of the Hyrox competitions. With its unique structure, Hyrox is poised to redefine fitness competitions on a global scale. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
