Costco Temporarily Pulls Kirkland Peanut Butter Amid Consumer Outcry
Costco has confirmed the temporary removal of its popular Kirkland Signature Organic Creamy Peanut Butter from stores across the United States. This decision has sparked significant consumer backlash on social media, with many fans expressing their frustration over the product’s sudden absence.
The withdrawal is attributed to a supply issue. According to a post by a Costco employee on Reddit, the manufacturer, Hampton Farms, has run out of Valencia peanuts, which are essential for producing this particular peanut butter. Costco anticipates that the product will return to shelves within three to six months as the company waits for a new crop to be harvested.
Consumer Reactions to the Withdrawal
The response from customers has been vocal and passionate. Social media platforms are filled with comments from devoted fans lamenting their inability to find the beloved peanut butter. One user shared, “I’m trying to make my recently opened jar last as long as possible!” Another remarked, “Oh my God!!!!!! I really hope it comes back because Kirkland peanut butter is the best. I just ran out of my two jars.”
This situation is particularly concerning for shoppers, as the peanut butter is unavailable across all of Costco’s more than 360 locations nationwide. Speculation surrounding the reason for the withdrawal has also circulated, with some consumers fearing a potential recipe change similar to past product revisions.
According to information provided by Reader’s Digest, Costco’s customer service has confirmed that this is a temporary situation. A representative stated that the peanut butter remains an “active item” in their inventory and is expected to return soon.
Alternative Options Available
While Kirkland Signature Organic Creamy Peanut Butter is off the shelves, Costco offers a range of alternatives for those in need of a peanut butter fix. For instance, shoppers can find a two-pack of 28-ounce jars of Naturally More Organic Creamy Peanut Butter priced at approximately $9.98. Another option includes the Jif Creamy Peanut Butter, available in a 48-ounce two-pack for around $12.47. For health-conscious consumers, PBfit Organic Peanut Butter Powder is offered in a 30-ounce bag for $15.88.
This recent incident is not the first time Costco has faced product-related challenges. Earlier this year, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco due to potential laceration hazards. Customers who purchased the affected product were advised against consumption.
Beyond these challenges, Costco is currently running a holiday promotion that offers checks of up to $60 to eligible members, showcasing the retailer’s commitment to customer satisfaction despite the temporary peanut butter shortage.
As the situation develops, consumers will be hoping for a swift resolution to this peanut butter crisis, eager to see the return of their cherished Kirkland brand staple.
