His performance was integral to Brookline’s commanding second-half performance, allowing them to outscore Portsmouth 53-27 in the final two quarters.
Haynes emphasized the importance of defensive focus, stating, “(The key) was to just stay focused and stay physical on defense.” This strategic approach proved effective, as Brookline initially struggled but found their rhythm, leading by 34-29 at halftime.
The Warriors’ coach, Johnny Williams, highlighted the significance of this victory. “This says we can play with anyone when we’re locked in,” he remarked, stressing the need for consistent focus and execution in their game plan.
The BABC Holiday Showcase, now in its 49th year, continues to attract top talent from across the country. This year, the event featured teams from outside the region, including schools from New York and Louisiana, further enriching the competitive atmosphere.
According to Leo Papile, Coach and CEO of BABC, the showcase holds deep significance. “High school basketball, for me personally, has historical and sentimental value,” he noted, reflecting on the event’s legacy and impact on young athletes.
As the showcase unfolds, Archbishop Williams and Brookline are set to carry their momentum into future matches, each team eager to continue their winning streaks.
