URGENT UPDATE: The Charlotte Hornets have officially waived veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie, just announced earlier today. This decision comes as the team prepares for the upcoming NBA regular-season opener on October 26, 2023, necessitating a reduction in guaranteed salaries.

Dinwiddie, who signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with the Hornets in July, participated in only two preseason games. His performance did not align with Charlotte’s expectations ahead of the new season, prompting the team to make this significant move.

Last season, Dinwiddie played for the Dallas Mavericks, where he averaged 14.3 points and 6.2 assists over 30 games as a starter. Throughout the 2024-25 season, he contributed 11 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in a total of 79 appearances.

Entering his 12th NBA season, Dinwiddie has been a pivotal player, especially during the 2022 Western Conference Finals with the Mavericks, where he showcased his capabilities as a sixth man following a mid-season trade for Kristaps Porzingis. He was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a deal involving Kyrie Irving.

Throughout his career, Dinwiddie has also suited up for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Lakers, accumulating averages of 13.0 points, 5.1 assists across 621 games.

This latest roster change reflects the Hornets’ strategic adjustments as they aim to build a competitive team for the season ahead. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this impacts Charlotte’s lineup and overall performance.

As the NBA season approaches, all eyes are on the Hornets and how they will adapt without Dinwiddie. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
