A teenager was tragically killed by bears while on a phone call with her mother during a summer outing in Siberia, Russia. Olga Moskalyova, 19, was walking along a river with her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, when they encountered multiple bears. The horrifying incident unfolded as Olga attempted to reach out to her mother, Tatiana Moskalyova, for help.

The day’s events began like any other, with Olga and Igor enjoying the scenic beauty of the Siberian landscape. Their peaceful stroll turned into a nightmare when they encountered a mother bear and her cubs. As the bears approached, Olga called her mother out of fear, describing the frightening situation. Suddenly, the phone was violently snatched from her grasp, marking the last connection she had with her family.

Olga’s mother listened in horror as her daughter screamed for help. The chilling exchange included desperate cries: “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!” Initially, Tatiana thought it might be a prank, but the sounds of growling and chewing quickly revealed the gravity of the situation. She recounted, “But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice and the sounds of a bear growling and chewing.”

In a heartbreaking final call, Olga told her mother, “Mum, it’s not hurting any more. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything; I love you so much.” This marked the last time Tatiana would hear her daughter’s voice. Devastated, she contacted the police, who arrived at the scene approximately an hour and a half later.

Upon arrival, authorities dispatched six hunters to locate and eliminate the bears. When found, the bears were reportedly still feeding on Olga’s lifeless body. The tragic loss has left the community in shock, as Olga was remembered as a “fun, warm and friendly” young woman. Just days prior to the attack, she had graduated from music school and obtained her driving license.

Investigation and Community Response

Following the incident, local officials emphasized the growing concern regarding bear attacks in Russia, particularly in areas where wildlife and humans intersect. Experts believe that as bears search for food, encounters with humans are becoming increasingly common. The tragedy has ignited discussions about wildlife safety and the need for greater awareness in areas inhabited by bears.

The loss of Olga and her stepfather has deeply impacted their families and the community. Both were laid to rest on the same day in 2011, marking a profound moment of grief for their loved ones. Olga’s mother continues to advocate for greater awareness and preventive measures to protect others from similar tragedies in the future.

As incidents like this continue to arise, it highlights the importance of respecting wildlife habitats and ensuring safety for those who venture into these natural areas.
