Cam Johnson Finds Shooting Rhythm as Nuggets Eye Road Success
The Denver Nuggets forward Cam Johnson showcased a notable improvement in his shooting performance during a recent game against the Chicago Bulls on November 17, 2025. Johnson’s resurgence was highlighted by a successful three-point shooting display, draining 5 of 7 attempts. This marked a significant turnaround for the player, who had struggled with consistency in his previous outings.
Johnson, who was traded from the Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr., acknowledged adjustments made to his shooting technique. “It was a little bit of a momentum transfer that I was working on the last couple days,” he explained. He emphasized the importance of engaging his entire body in the shooting motion, stating, “When you become an ‘arm’ shooter, it’s tough. You want the whole body involved.”
Before this game, Johnson had made only eight of his previous 38 three-point attempts, a statistic that weighed heavily on him. “While they weren’t going down early, they also weren’t feeling right,” he reflected on the challenging start to the season. The Nuggets faced their first home loss of the season that night, and Johnson’s performance provided a much-needed boost amid a disappointing team effort.
As the Nuggets prepare for a two-game road trip to New Orleans, Johnson’s recent success could serve as a catalyst for the team’s upcoming challenges. Nuggets head coach David Adelman expressed optimism regarding Johnson’s shooting, stating, “It’s going to happen. Cam’s going to make shots. That’s the bottom line.” Adelman highlighted the importance of patience as Johnson navigates through his current form.
Despite the positive performance, Johnson recognizes the need for ongoing consistency. His current averages of 8.2 points per game and a three-point shooting rate of 28.9% represent the slowest start in his seven-season career. “It’s self-talk, on one hand, where you just have to have the confidence in yourself,” he noted, illustrating the mental aspect of the game.
The trade that brought Johnson to Denver was evaluated not just on his individual performance but also on the overall team dynamics. The acquisition of Johnson, along with future considerations, allowed the Nuggets to reshape their roster without the financial burden of Porter Jr.’s contract. This strategic move has opened avenues for the Nuggets to strengthen their lineup with players like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown.
As Johnson continues to refine his game, he remains focused on contributing to a team with championship aspirations. “I’ve worked on this a lot in my life,” he shared. The pressures of high expectations are palpable, but Johnson appears determined to embrace the challenge.
His performance against the Bulls may be a turning point, not just for his own confidence but for the team’s trajectory as they aim for success in the coming games. With the right adjustments, Johnson is poised to become a reliable asset for the Nuggets as they strive to solidify their standing in the league.
