Browns Set to Draft New QB as Gabriel, Sanders Face Changes
UPDATE: The Cleveland Browns are making significant moves as they reevaluate their quarterback situation after a disappointing 2-8 record. Following Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Kevin Stefanski has confirmed that rookie Shedeur Sanders will start in Week 12 after Dillon Gabriel sustained a concussion.
This urgent shift in the Browns’ lineup comes as the franchise grapples with its future. Gabriel, drafted in the third round from Oregon, has been the starting quarterback since the team traded veteran Joe Flacco. Meanwhile, Sanders, selected in the fifth round from Colorado, is now poised to take on a more prominent role as both quarterbacks face scrutiny.
ESPN analyst Matt Miller has predicted that the Browns, currently projected to hold one of the top three picks in the upcoming draft, will aggressively pursue a new quarterback to lead the franchise. Miller suggests the Browns may trade up from the No. 3 spot to select Dante Moore, the standout QB from Oregon, who has shown impressive skills this season.
Miller’s analysis raises questions about the future of both Gabriel and Sanders. “The Browns’ many attempts to find a franchise quarterback have failed, so it’s back to the drawing board,” he stated. This strategy reflects the Browns’ ongoing struggle to secure a reliable signal-caller, raising stakes as their current options face challenges.
Moore, a transfer from UCLA, has demonstrated significant potential, completing 72.8% of his passes for 2,190 yards, with 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions in limited action. While Moore is not guaranteed to enter the draft in 2026 due to his experience, his ability to perform under pressure makes him a compelling candidate.
Miller emphasized that while Moore alone might not be a quick fix, pairing him with talented prospects like RB Quinshon Judkins and TE Harold Fannin Jr. could revitalize the Browns’ offense.
As the Browns look to reshape their future, fans will be watching closely to see how these developments unfold. The urgency for change is palpable, and the next few weeks will be crucial for Cleveland as they navigate their options in what has been a tumultuous season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Browns prepare for a pivotal offseason.
