Cynthia Erivo Celebrates Grammy Nominations on ‘Fallon’
Cynthia Erivo, the acclaimed actress and singer, recently shared her excitement over receiving two Grammy Award nominations during her appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*. The nominations are for her contributions to the upcoming film *Wicked: For Good*, which is set to debut in theaters on November 21, 2024. This sequel follows the massive success of the first *Wicked* film, which grossed nearly $750 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing adaptation of a Broadway musical to date.
Grammy Nominations and Surprise Recognition
During her interview, Erivo expressed her surprise at being eligible for Grammy nominations for her work on the film. She received a nod for “Defying Gravity,” a duet with Ariana Grande, in the category of best pop duo/group performance, and another nomination for “Be Okay” in the best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella category. “I didn’t even know we could be nominated for that,” she told Fallon. “I didn’t know we could be eligible.”
Erivo is not only reprising her role as Elphaba but has also recently released her autobiography titled *Simply More* and graced the cover of *GQ* in the UK. Despite her busy schedule, she took a moment to reflect on her experiences and share a light-hearted anecdote about a viral meme involving a lost hat, which she recreated during her appearance on the show.
Box Office Predictions for *Wicked: For Good*
As anticipation builds for the film’s release, industry experts predict that *Wicked: For Good* could achieve an impressive opening weekend, potentially raking in over $120 million domestically and upwards of $200 million worldwide. According to *The Hollywood Reporter*, if these projections hold true, Jon M. Chu’s film would set a record for the best opening for a Broadway musical adaptation.
Despite the high expectations, the studio has tempered enthusiasm by indicating that a domestic gross of around $115 million would still be considered a significant success. As the release date approaches, Erivo’s involvement continues to garner attention, highlighting her multifaceted talents in the entertainment industry.
With her remarkable achievements and the excitement surrounding *Wicked: For Good*, Cynthia Erivo is undoubtedly one of the standout stars of this season. Her blend of artistic talent and engaging personality continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
