Texas A&M University has finalized a new six-year contract for athletics director Trev Alberts, extending his tenure through 2031. This agreement received the backing of the A&M University System Board of Regents and was announced in a statement released on Friday.

In the announcement, Tommy Williams, the university’s interim president, expressed confidence in Alberts’ leadership. “As we navigate the changing college athletics landscape, Trev Alberts’ professionalism, knowledge, and business-minded approach is just what we need to compete boldly in the future,” Williams stated. He emphasized that Alberts embodies the core values of the institution and understands the significance of the 12th Man, a term that symbolizes the enthusiastic support of Texas A&M fans.

Alberts joined Texas A&M in March 2024, and his tenure has already been marked by significant achievements. During his time, the university has celebrated two national championships, with the women’s tennis team claiming its first title in 2024 and the men’s outdoor track and field team securing its fifth title in 2025. Under Alberts’ guidance, the Aggies have also won four Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships, including titles in women’s tennis, men’s indoor track and field, and softball, all achieved in 2025.

In addition to the success on the field, Alberts played a crucial role in securing a landmark multimedia rights deal with Playfly Sports. This 15-year agreement is recognized as the largest of its kind in college athletics history. The partnership allows Playfly to collaborate closely with A&M to develop strategies aimed at driving significant commercial growth, including opportunities related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiatives, premium hospitality, and emerging market categories.

Alberts’ contract extension follows that of head football coach Mike Elko, who recently signed a new deal on November 15. Elko’s six-year contract is valued at $11 million annually. He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Alberts, stating, “We’re building something special here at Texas A&M, and my partnership with Trev is an integral part of that.” Elko highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue with coaches to elevate Texas A&M’s status as a premier athletics brand.

The new contract for Alberts not only signifies the university’s commitment to stability in its leadership but also reflects a broader ambition for growth and success in an evolving landscape of college athletics.

As Texas A&M continues to strive for excellence, both on and off the field, the extended leadership of Trev Alberts is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Aggie Athletics.
