UPDATE: The No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team faced a crushing defeat against the Cincinnati Bearcats last night, falling in a 3-0 sweep with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-16. This loss marks just the third time this season the Buffs have been swept, significantly halting their momentum as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.

The match took place on November 24, 2023, as the Buffs struggled to find their rhythm, posting a disappointing hitting percentage of just .105. In stark contrast, Cincinnati showcased a formidable performance, finishing the match with an impressive hitting percentage of .404.

CU head coach Jesse Mahoney expressed his disappointment in a post-match statement:

“A match where Cincinnati did everything right and we couldn’t get going. We’ve been a really good defensive team this year – we haven’t let anyone hit for those kind of numbers.”

His remarks reflect the unexpected nature of the match, as the Buffs have been known for their strong defense throughout the season.

With a record of 22-7 and 12-5 in the Big 12, the Buffaloes are now looking to regroup before their final regular season game. They will return home to face No. 25 BYU next Saturday, November 29, at 6 p.m. ET, with the match broadcasted on ESPN+.

The Buffs will need to address their defensive shortcomings if they hope to bounce back against the Cougars. Key players from last night included Jordan and Splawska, each contributing 8 kills, while Cincinnati’s Nolan dominated with 19 kills.

As fans eagerly await the showdown with BYU, the Buffs must harness this tough loss as motivation for a strong finish. The coming days will be crucial for the team as they prepare to reclaim their momentum and aim for a successful postseason.

Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses and the Buffaloes seek redemption on their home court.
