Louis Edward Goldberg, Esteemed Lawyer and Family Man, Dies at 89
Louis Edward Goldberg, a respected attorney and beloved family man, passed away at the age of 89 after a courageous battle with cancer. His death occurred peacefully, surrounded by family, marking the end of a life dedicated to both professional achievement and personal values.
Born to David and Paula Goldberg in Hartford, Connecticut, Louis spent much of his youth in Arizona with his family, including his sister, Evelyn. He later married his lifelong partner, Sheila Burd Goldberg, and together they established a nurturing home in California, where they raised their three children.
Education and Career Accomplishments
Louis pursued higher education with determination. He first attended Arizona State University before graduating from the University of Arizona. He then completed his legal education at South Bay University School of Law. Initially, Louis worked as an engineer, a field he excelled in until he transitioned to law. His legal career spanned several decades, concluding with his retirement at age 73.
Throughout his professional journey, Louis distinguished himself not only as an attorney but also as a mentor to many. He instilled a strong work ethic and values in his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to pursue their aspirations and achieve personal success.
A Life Rich in Family and Interests
Outside of work, Louis was an active individual who enjoyed sports, particularly playing various games and practicing karate. He was an avid fan of college basketball, often cheering for his teams. Louis also had a passion for exploring new restaurants and shared countless memorable meals with his family.
Louis is survived by his children: Robert Goldberg and his wife Elaine, Michelle Goldberg Smith and her husband Kevin, and Sheri Goldberg Frazin and her husband Alvin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jennifer Sher and her husband Rabbi Daniel, Steven Smith and his wife Kelby, Amanda Goldberg and her fiancé Zach, Andrew Goldberg and his wife Emily, Rachel Frazin Sofaer, and Sarah Bowens and her husband Brandon. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Levi, Sami, Lily, Rory, and Ari.
A memorial service honoring his life was held on November 16, 2025, at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California. Family and friends gathered to celebrate a man who not only achieved great professional success but also created a loving family legacy.
