BREAKING: Annabella Tomasic, a ninth grader from Bishop Moore, has claimed her second state title at the FHSAA cross country state championships in Tallahassee, securing her victory with an impressive time of 17 minutes, 35.5 seconds for the 5,000 meters. This remarkable performance, the fastest girls’ time across all classifications, saw her finish a staggering 31 seconds ahead of Celina Coryell from Satellite High School, who clocked in at 18:06.3.

Tomasic’s victory marks her seventh win in as many races this season, showcasing her extraordinary talent after winning the 2A championship last year. Despite battling injuries in her eighth-grade season, she switched to Bishop Moore and led her team to a third-place finish in the team standings, trailing only behind Chiles (Tallahassee) and Ponte Vedra.

In the boys’ competition, Will Moss from Montverde Academy decisively won the 2A title with a time of 15:35.3, a significant improvement from his 29th place finish last year at 16:53.5. His outstanding performance is a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Meanwhile, the boys’ 4A championship saw the Buchholz Bobcats overturn expectations by defeating the previously favored Oviedo team. Buchholz secured first place with 58 points, while Oviedo finished with 103 points. Despite leading through the two-mile mark, Oviedo fell short as Buchholz surged ahead.

In individual highlights, Axel Sallault from East Ridge finished as the 4A runner-up with a time of 15:27.5. Other notable performances included Jacob Finch (Horizon) in sixth place at 15:48.0, and Colin Aysun (Oviedo) in seventh at 15:54.8. In the girls’ 4A race, Arabella Duffell from Lake Nona secured ninth with a time of 18:36.6.

This year’s championship showcased not just individual excellence but also the spirit of competition among Florida’s top athletes. As the results are confirmed, many eyes will be on these rising stars as they continue their athletic journeys. For more updates on upcoming races and athlete performances, stay tuned.
