St. Joseph Community Chorus Unveils December Holiday Performances

The St. Joseph Community Chorus has announced an exciting lineup of holiday performances this December, inviting community members to participate in the joy of seasonal music. Two key events will feature a range of traditional holiday classics, showcasing both choral and instrumental talents.

On December 13, 2023, at 15:00, the First Presbyterian Church will host the “Messiah Sing-A-Long.” This free event will celebrate Handel’s iconic work, allowing attendees to join in singing the Christmas portion of the oratorio. Led by Dr. Timothy Tharaldson alongside Dr. Ruth Krusemark, participants will be accompanied by an organ and talented soloists from the St. Joseph Community Chorus.

While singers are encouraged to bring their own scores, copies will be available for those who do not have one. Although there is no admission fee, donations are welcomed to support the chorus’s ongoing initiatives.

Christmas at the Cathedral to Feature Special Guests

Following the Sing-A-Long, the St. Joseph Community Chorus will present its cherished holiday tradition, “Christmas at the Cathedral,” with two performances scheduled. Audiences can enjoy the concert on December 21, 2023, at 15:00, and on December 22, 2023, at 19:00 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 519 N. 10th St.

This year, the chorus will collaborate with Rezound!, Kansas City’s premier auditioned handbell ensemble. With 15 musicians performing on an impressive array of instruments, including 6.5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and 6 octaves of Malmark choir chimes, audiences can expect a remarkable auditory experience. Together, the St. Joseph Community Chorus and Rezound! will perform three captivating pieces: “Creation Will Be at Peace” by Anna Laura Page, “Christmas Is Coming” by Joel Raney, and “Ring Out Ye Bells” by Marques L.A. Garrett, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest.

Admission for the performances is priced at $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free for all students. This initiative highlights the chorus’s commitment to making music accessible to all community members.
